Negotiators Say They’ve Agreed 'In Principal' on Border Bill

Do you support the agreement?

by Countable | Updated on 2.11.19

  • The AP is reporting that top congressional lawmakers have reached a bipartisan legislative agreement that would avert another partial government shutdown later this week.
  • Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) told reporters “we have an agreement in principle” on all bills and that Congress “will be working feverishly to put” everything together.
  • The deal includes $1.375 billion for physical barriers (specifically bollard barriers).
  • Detention-bed numbers will stay at their current funding level of 40,520 (a number currently surpassed by ICE). Democrats have reportedly dropped their demand of a 16,500 cap on interior beds.
  • On January 25th, President Donald Trump made a deal with Democrats to end the 35-day partial government shutdown and reopen the government through February 15.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

It provides funds for border barriers and to pay detention centers. That’s unacceptable. We want children returned to families and detention centers permanently closed in 90 days. There’s no reason to continue to detain these children. End this humanitarian crime. What a shameful compromise! Pass a bill ending shutdowns as political game. Do your jobs. 2020 budget is due 30 Sep 2019. Is anyone working on that?

It’s a small start but let’s see what else they aren’t telling us about that’s in the bill. It’s sad that people can’t agree with protecting our country from law breakers criminals and drugs.

This seems like a reasonable compromise. We cannot afford another government shutdown, but Trump's ineffective, heartless, and simplistic solution of a simple wall must be resisted.

Total BS and hypocrisy, especially compared with what the Demos themselves were prepared to ask for and indeed asked for in the very recent past. Purely political posturing and hypocrisy. They know this won't solve any problems (WHAT problems they ask?--deceitful people)...and they don't care. And that is what all Americans really need to know about the current Demo Party and DNC: they don't care about WeThePeople, only about themselves (as was abundantly clear by the egregious self-congratulation the white brigade gave themselves at the SOTU), about their positions of power, about trying to set themselves up as best as they think possible for the next election, and then the next, and then the next. They're interested in VOTES...gotten in any way they can. What do they think about most Americans?--they are Despicables. And how about MS-13?--oh, those poor boys--we give them "jobs" to do whenever possible. Disgusting and anti-American...but that has become their norm.

By All Means YES.......No Shutdown....... Hopefully the AP reporting that the top congressional lawmakers have reached a bipartisan legislative agreement, that would avert another partial government shutdown, later this week. I’m hopeful that the agreement includes funding to initiate the construction of the Southern Border security barrier/ Wall with bi-partisan support. P.S The USA 🇺🇸 Will Not Become A SOCIALIST Nation. SneakyPete.......... 😀😃😄😁😆. 2*11*19........

I oppose any measure that does not provide the funding for the wall specified by the president and especially any restrictions on the law enforcement officials to do their duty to provide maximum protection on the border. Mr. President, do not capitulate. To my representatives in Congress, get behind Mr. Trump on this issue, do your jobs!

Another partial government shutdown would be inexcusable.Either pass this agreement or pass a joint CR that would be veto proof to give time to hammer out a border barrier agreement, or not, but don't furlough 100,000 federal workers and contractors (AGAIN!) because Congress can't agree on lunch, much less anything else.

These people are stupid. They can spend money with abandon for unnecessary things, plane travel to God knows where, stupid ideas because it is not their money!! We need the wall. Ilegal immigrants cost each tax paying American over $2000.00 a year. Stop all immigration for 10 years. If you had to live under all the regulations, and laws you pass on us, Health Care just 1 example, we would not have the mess in Washington that we have. Elaine Meincke

Let’s see what’s in it. No funding for a wall that will NOT solve the immigration problem. That requires thought, drive & an understanding of challenges in Central & South America. Something that this administration has zero desire to educate itself on. They want us to view these people as scary, as a mob, as criminals. No doubt, some might be. By far, the majority are people in crisis. As a naturalized citizen myself, I understand what these people seek. This WH needs to stop with the vile rhetoric & bigotry.

Since walls don’t stop criminals, according to the Left, then let’s remove all the walls and fences around our schools and patrol the grounds with drones. The real truth is the Left is playing on people’s emotions in order to allow uneducated, ignorant people to flood our country and vote for free everything and putting Dems in POWER. Pay the 5.7 billion to protect citizens. If you disagree then your interested in the demise of our nation.

Need the full $5.6-5.7 Billion. Good on keeping the same number of detention beds. If number of beds were lowered, then the detainees should be released back into Mexico, NOT the US.
