What is H.R. 2682?
(Updated August 12, 2017)
Prohibits funding any and all components of the Affordable Health Act, also known as Obamacare. Disallows entitlements under Obamacare. Rescinds unobligated balances under Obamacare. The Affordable Health Act requires that most individuals obtain health insurance or pay a penalty tax; requires employers with 50 or more full time employees to provide approved health care coverage or pay a penalty tax; establishes insurance exchanges through which individuals and families will receive taxpayer-funded premium subsidies; expands Medicaid; cuts Medicare, and imposes additional taxes on health insurance plans, medical devices, businesses, families, and individuals.
Argument in favor
Obamacare is a violation of personal liberty, provides the federal government with too much power, and would be a logistical nightmare to implement.
Argument opposed
A fundamental component of a functioning democracy is universal access to healthcare.
Impact
If enacted, the bill would repeal all components of Obamacare. Such legislation would theoretically set in motion a series of events that would return health insurance to a state pre-Obamacare. Such a transition would affect health coverage for millions of Americans.
Cost of H.R. 2682
