May 25: It's Not the WWE, It's Politics. Someone Tell Gianforte.

The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!

THURSDAY, MAY 25

Well, hello, CountaCompatriots!

Nothing is as crazy in Washington today as the World Wrestling Entertainment-type news out of Montana. Are you next, Georgia? George Will says an Ossoff win in the 6th District Thursday will bring a "World of Pain" for the President. But will he have Handel in a headlock by the end of the day? That’s the question.

Perhaps more importantly, clashes between Republicans and the news media seem to be heating up over the last few weeks. Arrests, manhandling, body slams… Anybody else wake up this morning thinking of Revenge of the Nerds for the first time in 33 years?

The President: Brussels, Belgium and Taormina, Italy

  • President Trump begins the days in Brussels. He met with French President Emanuel Macron early this morning, and will move on to NATO headquarters for meetings and the unveiling of a Berlin Wall memorial. Watch the memorial unveiling here.

  • This evening the president will fly to Taormina, Italy for a meeting of the G7.

The House of Representatives: IN SESSION

The Senate: IN SESSION

What to Watch

  • Watch here at 10:00 AM EDT as Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin testifies in front of the Senate Finance Committee about the FY 2018 Budget and Tax Reform.

  • And at 10:30 AM EDT watch the opening of the Senate. If no one brings up the WWE I will be really disappointed.

Be strong, CountaFriends! And remember to keep your hands to yourself.

This man's Congressional race should be condemned immediately and he should not receive any political endorsements if he chooses to continue his campaign. Freedom of the press is paramount and the candidate's account of the incident conflicts with that of The Guardian, Fox News and others. So not only is the guy assaulting reporters, he's lying about it.

A disturbing aspect of the assault in Montana was the hastily issued statement by the Republican local committee which attempted to pin the blame onto the journalist. Witnesses present and audio effectively refute that version. This appears to be cynical manipulation of the base. It would be unfortunate if this candidate gets sent to Washington.

If there was ever a situation to disqualify a candidate from being elected to Congress, even if he wins by majority vote in Montana, this physical and potentially deadly assault upon a reporter from the Guardian, is a clear example as to why he should not serve. Wake up America!

Violence against reporters should not be tolerated. It should be condemned. He hasn't been elected, but any self-respecting politician should ask that he step out of the race and resign from politics. If you can't answer a tough question, you don't physically attack them. This should not be a partisan issue.

This is the Republican Party. Couldn't explain it better. Republican supporters want a dictatorship not democracy. People need to understand what Republicans are telling you. Their in charge shut up and sit down, peon!

NJ representatives. I would hope you will condemn this guys actions. Are we moving to a police state? What's next, we will call out the National Guard to shoot people? Are we really going back to the Nixon era? Or are you driving us to the same state as Russia, China or other dictatorships? A free press is all that stands between a democracy and a dictator. Just because a person doesn't like the press doesn't mean they can use violence. I hope to hear your voices calling the candidate unqualified. Civility matters.

Nothing excuses this aggressive behavior! He assaulted a reporter for asking a question he didn't like. He was charged with assault. He has no self control! Additionally, he lied and blamed the reporter. Thanks to ethical Fox news journalist who shared what they saw and put it on record! He should not be a representative for any state! He'll be an embarrassment to Montana if he is elected.

He needs to be removed from the Ballot,as it was a public assault. The sheriff who donated $250.00 to his campaign didn't do his job. Grabbing someone by the throats and slamming them onto the ground , breaking their glasses is felony assault. This clown has anger management issues.

Interesting that the sheriff, a political contributor chose to charge his candidate with a misdemeanor not a felony. We do not need a candidate like this in Congress. We already have one in the White House.

Ridiculous, Trent Franks blaming liberal media for the assault is also very troubling.

Someone needs to tell the voters in that Montana district that they need to educate themselves! This was not his first outburst; wake up and get involved in your local politics.

Can you imagine what world leaders who are forced to meet Trump must think? If this joke for an administration is what democracy can result in it must make other countries consider against it. I wouldn't want to live in a country that gives ignorant people who are so uneducated they vote against their own interests a weighted vote because of their state's sparse population. Oh wait, I do live in a country where the electoral college does that. The Joke is on us. The Republican Party is laughing up a storm while the dunce in office implements their agenda for the wealthiest while their poor thug supporters who are missing more then a few brain cells cheer them on, not even noticing the food (or healthcare) stolen right from under their noses.

No surprise that the news crew has walked back their account of the incident, saying no such body slam occurred nor was there any choking. Once again the media files false news and everyone climbs on board. Will there ever be a time when those who pull these stunts apologize for their actions and the character damage they do? Or has journalism just become one giant forum for who can tell the biggest lies and ruin the most people? No integrity.

If this is how this guy handles stress, it will be fun to watch him interact with Washington Press Corps. I would put my money on Andrea Mitchell if it came to a one on one showdown. Unfortunately, 70% of Montana's vote had been cast before this incident and Montana is a red state. Would guess old Greg has already won.

If the people of Montana vote this man in and congress doesn't stop this then we are all in trouble. This is not excusable. I can just see the Montana tourism ads now- come to Montana and risk getting knocked down and punched. It begs the question what else will be okay there: abuse, rape, killing. It is a slippery slope that seems to state violence of any kind towards another is okay. If he gets elected, there will be only one message sent to children- you too can violently attack someone and be rewarded for it!
