Do You Want to Hear from the Interpreter in the Trump, Putin Meeting?
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
What’s the story?
- Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday rejected a motion by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to subpoena the interpreter present at the private meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
- “This is an extraordinary remedy, I realize, but then it’s extraordinary for the president of the United States to ask all of his senior staff essentials to leave the room and have a conversation with an adversary,” Schiff said during a public hearing on China’s threats to the U.S. government.
“This may be our last opportunity before we go into an extended recess to vote to subpoena the interpreter and find out if there are any other national security problems that arose from this meeting.”
- Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) led Republicans in a party-line vote of 11-6 to table Schiff’s motion to bring the interpreter before the committee.
- Democrats are exploring other ways to hear from the interpreter, and have also demanded that the Trump administration turn over all “contemporaneous notes" taken during the private meeting between Trump and Putin.
