Comey: Trump Requested an End to Flynn Investigation

A New York Times report claims that President Donald Trump asked then FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation into Trump's first National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn. The report states that Comey wrote a memo following this February conversation with the president.
The Times report doesn’t provide a copy of the memo, which was provided to them by an anonymous source, although it says that Comey kept similar notes from all his meetings with the president to document "what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence an ongoing investigation."
The White House said "this is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation" and that Trump never asked Comey or anyone else to end the investigation.
It didn’t take long for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to call for access to the memo. Chairman of the House Oversight Committee Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) tweeted that he’d issue a subpoena to get it if necessary:
.@GOPoversight is going to get the Comey memo, if it exists. I need to see it sooner rather than later. I have my subpoena pen ready.

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff (D-CA) told CNN that "Congress really needs to get to the bottom of this" and called on Comey to testify before his committee. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made a similar request for his Senate subcommittee, and said he’d consider supporting growing calls for a special prosecutor if Comey’s memo is accurate.
Democrats in the Senate have already vowed to hold up the appointment of a new FBI Director unless Republicans grant their request for a special prosecutor. Now, with allegations of obstruction of justice swirling and even rumblings of impeachment, those calls for an independent investigation will grow louder.
