U.S., France, Germany Blame Russia for U.K. Nerve Agent Attack

by Countable | Updated on 3.15.18

What’s the story?

  • In a joint statement, leaders from France, Germany, and the U.S. formally agreed with Britain’s claims that Russia was behind a nerve agent attack on a former spy and his daughter who were living in Salisbury, U.K.

What are they jointly stating?

  • The four leaders condemned the "first offensive use of a nerve agent" in Europe since World War II.

  • President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House: "It certainly looks like the Russians were behind it, something that should never ever happen. We are taking it very seriously as, I think, are many others."

  • The countries’ leaders said their concerns were "heightened against the background of a pattern of earlier irresponsible Russian behavior. We call on Russia to live up to its responsibilities as a member of the UN Security Council to uphold international peace and security."

  • A day earlier, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, expressed solidarity with the U.K.:

"The United States believes that Russia is responsible for the attack on two people in the United Kingdom using a military-grade nerve agent. If we don’t take immediate, concrete measures to address this now, Salisbury will not be the last place we see chemical weapons used. They could be used here in New York or in cities of any country that sits on this Council."

  • The statement was released the same day the U.S. Treasury Department announced it was imposing fresh economic sanctions on five "entities" and 19 individuals for interfering in the 2016 presidential election and for conducting a series of cyberattacks.

  • Russia has denied responsibility for the attack and promised to retaliate against British Prime Minister Theresa May’s expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats from the U.K.

What do you think?

Do you share Haley’s concerns that a nerve agent attack "could be used here in New York"? Should the U.S. impose additional sanctions on Moscow or expel diplomats? Hit Take Action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.

Ambassador Haley was eloquent. It is time for the world to hold Purin accountable for his criminal actions. He has been committing these and other atrocities for years while the world has given him a pass. Sanctions must be swift and stern. In addition, trump needs to impose the sanctions congress voted on months ago.

Russia is a clear and present danger to the free and democratic world. Vladimir Putin and the Ruddian Federation of committed acts of war upon the United States and her allies through their efforts to undermine our electoral process and our democracy. In addition to these attacks, they have killed on NATO soil. It is time for Congress to act with the aid of our NATO allies against Russia. We cannot rely on Trump or his administration to protect our democracy or our country.

Liberal “Trump Hatred Disorder (THD)” Symptoms. We are, once again seeing a massive breakout of the “ Trump Hatred Disorder (THD)” Symptoms occurring. A key 🔑 element of the “THD” is the need, by Leftist Leaning Liberals to express their Trump Hatred, by blaming President Trump for all or anything that they have no response, for. The latest example is their view that President Trump some how, played a part in the “Suspected” Russian poisoning, of a Soviet Dissident, in Great Briton. It’s hoped that our friends on the left, will step back, and take a deep depth counting to 10, before making some of their outlandish comments. 3*15*18.

Get off this Russia Trump collusion crap! Mueller has turned up nothing! As far a Putin? He’s no different than Xi! Both are nothing more than gangsters not that they believe in communism or not as that does not matter? They are in power for as long as they want! Now then Russia? It’s a Russian Mafia ruled country no more no less! Don’t trust either as far as you can spit! Our President Donald Trump did not deserve all this crap! He’s doing a great job and doing what we responsible Americans elected him to do!

All you idiots saying is Trump's fault are absolutely ridiculous. First, you claim collusion. Then, when that didn't pan out, you say he didn't act on Russia fast enough. Good grief.

Since the agent was only made in Russia & was used on an EX-Russian Spy, it only makes sense that Russia did it. Putin knows Trump won’t go anything because he either owes Russia money or Russia has dirt on Trump that he is being blackmailed by, OR BOTH!!! Trump should be removed from office. Any other person would have already been gone

The Russian attack on British soil MUST be met with a message of “we’re not gonna take this”. Not a slap on the hand.

Collusion hasn’t ‘not panned out’ and Mueller hasn’t ‘not turned up anything.’ We have five guilty pleas and more indictments *that we know about.* Things have to ‘turn up’ when Mueller needs them to turn up so the investigation is not compromised. You’re stupid if you think he has played even half of his cards at this stage. Then the question of obstruction (and I’m not even sure how it’s even a question) .. this Stormy Daniels mess.. No, the mean liberals (or Mueller who is a registered Republican) are not going to ‘wrap this thing up’ anytime soon, and they are not obligated to work on anyone’s timeline.

I mean it was a Russian double agent killed by a nerve gas. We recently saw chemical weapons used in Syria and North Korea. We know for a fact from the Syria bombing, after the attack on civilians, that we came close to conflict with Russia as well with the strike. It is important to make a joint statement with these other nations. Stop using every story as a platform to argue conservative vs liberal issues. This is an international community issue and your petty squabbles don’t have any place or weight here. I’m glad we made a joint statement condemning Russia, chemical weapons in any scope of use should be persecuted to the fullest by the international community.

In January 2018, #45 refused to impose sanctions against Russia to punish them for their interference in our 2016 elections. #45 wanted to wait to impose the sanctions because of major defense deals. I honestly don’t know if the U.K. will receive the support it needs from #45 and this administration. Given the ease of delivering this nerve attack poison not only is it horrible for Europe, but has the possibility of being our reality as well, is blaming the Russians enough?

I would like to point out the NERVE of Congress in failing to carry out their oath of office and in protecting the American people from this toxic 45th administration. You knew, you were warned, you did nothing. That is simply unacceptable!

Russia is clearly a threat to not only America, but several other countries in the world! When will the lord stop? These investigations go on for months on end, when we just want to hear the TRUTH and we want proper ACTION to be taken. If our president is associated with a dangerous power in the world, we need to do something.
