Congress Prepares to Vote on Final Version of GOP Tax Bill

by Countable | 12.16.17

The GOP’s tax reform push took a big step forward Friday as Republican members of the conference committee signed off on a compromise that blends the House- and Senate-passed versions of the bill. Here’s what’s in it:

What’s Next?

Monday evening the House Rules Committee is scheduled to meet to structure the debate around the bill when it heads to the floor for a vote as early as Tuesday. If it passes the House, the Senate could vote to send it to President Donald Trump’s desk later that day or on Wednesday. At present no GOP senators have expressed opposition to the final version of the bill.

I am happy for all of the super wealthy. They really need a break, the way they bailed us out of the last financial crisis was so great they continue to make sacrifices to keep America on track...oh wait that’s the working class that bailed out the super wealthy after they stole billions from the working class. This tax bill is atrocious and its supporters should be ashamed.

Do not support this wealthcare bill. If you care at all for the common people-the middle and lower class-do not lie to yourself and to us. This is a disastrous bill -to support it places you as an advocate for rich only.

Merry Christmas you legends of righteousness and love. You gave generous gifts to your friends and used our credit card to pay for it. Don’t worry about it. You can reduce Medicare and social security next. We give you unconditional love and you know in November 2018 we’ll be there for you. We won’t forget how you used your majority for the greater good even when the people of Alabama denied you your pedophile. See you then and remember paybacks are Hell.

Even though I’m sure you’ll vote for it, I just wanted to let you know how disappointed I am, mainly with the GOP, in the entire process of creating this legislation. After at least 8 years of complaining about the other party in the majority, it seems like you were caught by surprise having become the majority yourselves. This legislation seems like it was railroaded through by corporate lobbyists rather than conservative legislators, with little or no regard for the regular taxpayer. Those who have families and children in college seemed to be overlooked, with the big emphasis on giving corporations more tax breaks. Trickle down economics has never worked in the past and it won’t this time. It’s a shame you were in a rush to get something passed and didn’t take the time to do it right. I am disappointed.

This bill is a disgrace and will negatively impact our middle and lower class as well as our elderly! The tax’s support the wealthy and big corporations and in order to support the wealthy the GOP is already talking about cutting Medicare and SS. Republicans have no clue about how everyday people live and survive on their wages. You should all be ashamed of yourselves pretending to support middle class when you just support yourselves and your wealthy friends!

This bill is a farce because the wealthy corporations don’t even pay the percentage now in taxes anyway. It’s only on paper but they pay zero in practice. So this makes no difference to them. This is their way of sneaking in the demise of the ACA and to take more money out of our pockets. And they are talking about meddling with payroll taxes and inevitably going after SS and medicare. THIS SHOULD BE A NO VOTE. However, obviously they are only listening to each other. Not their constituents. The people are together. What they don’t get is that no matter how much money they get from corporations we have the last sat. All those that vote for this bill should be voted out in 2018. My senators are voting no so call your republican senators and tell them they will not get your vote next year if they go for this.

I'm exhausted from the onslaught of cold hearted destruction that Trump and his desperate GOP congress and Senate are inflicting on us. Mr President, your predecessor got the economy rolling, not you. GOP, if you truly believe in Trickle Down Economics, then mandate the recipients of your generous tax break to create jobs. I feel helpless to your head on assault to my "entitlements", Social Security and Medicare. We'll all be dead from the pollution caused by Climate Change anyway. But rest assured, if your lovely president has not laundered the elections, I won't be voting for any of you in 2018 or during my life time.

This tax bill cannot go through! The majority of Americans will not benefit, and will, in fact, be harmed by this bill. The American people need to be put above the agenda of the mega wealthy. This is messing with people’s lives. Homes, cars, and more will be lost. It is all connected. Health will decline, folks will miss work, it will effect businesses, the job market, etc. time to look at the big picture, and wake up. The GOP has only their interest at heart. For shame.

To increase the deficit by 1 1/2 trillion dollars in order to give tax breaks to the wealthy donors and corporations is criminal. The Republican Party should be ashamed of themselves for putting corporations and wealthy donors ahead of the American public who actually voted for them. Of course your next move, because of the increase deficit will be to reduce entitlement programs, just adds another way to steel from the poor to give to the rich. By the way for your information Social Security is not an entitlement, the American people as well as their employers have paid in to the system with our money. We, the American voters have to start putting more effort into elections and candidates, for us to keep voting in the same people and expecting change is just insane!

Representative Faso, please vote no on this bill. It detrimentally affects the working and middle class, who need all the help they can get in current times. This bill is hiding behind the face of middle class assistance when really, it’s only for the rich. They’re the only ones that will be helped by this bill. Please vote no, I beg you.

I doubt that there is an independent, brave, responsible Republican Senator who has the wisdom and courage to vote NO. The Republican lemmings simply are following this unhinged president anywhere he wants to go, putting party above country. PLEASE MY FELLOW AMERICANS, remember what they are doing to us when it is time to vote in November, 2018. Turn out the Republicans, in particular the cowardly Paul Ryan and the dangerous Jim Jordan, and perhaps the Democrats can begin restoring the dignity and sanity Donald Trump and his party have taken from us.

Senators and Representatives, if you vote yes on this bill you will lose any right to claim to be fiscally responsible. Do not come out next year and claim we must endure cuts to social security and Medicare to bring the deficit under control. Vote no on this bill.

I urge my Rep. Rob Wittman to listen to his constituents and vote no on this disaster of a bill. Why is this being rushed? To give the administration a quick, perceived win before his shitshow of a presidency falls apart? If you were on the other side would you not agree that "once in a century/sweeping tax reform" deserves adequate time to develop, allowing hearing so everyone can understand and provide input? I find the favors to the rich disgusting.. experts have already concluded that not only will the deficit explode that the corporations and rich owners will not likely hire but buy back stock and move money in overseas' accounts and interest rates could rise negating any tiny saving scheduled for regular folks. I am also strongly against hurting healthcare access via this bill and setting us up for harm to social security or Medicaid - Medicare - as are the overwhelming majority of Americans. Do you want this to be your legacy, Rep. Wittman? Act for us not your big corporate donors.
