If you're worried about drug addicts getting welfare benefits, there are two problems. One, we need to be ramping up mental health services in this country because they are absolutely abysmal, and the vast majority of addicts have a mental illness. Two, do you have any idea how expensive drug testing is? How would this save any money, if that's really the concern? Start drug testing every welfare applicant and you'll quickly bleed cash faster than you can say "pee in a cup". Additionally, the statistics on the issue show the majority of welfare recipients are transitional, people who experience short term economic hardship then leave the system. There is no data-driven support for drug testing welfare recipients en masse.
