More levels at the national level does nothing for security. The best security for these children is removing Betsy DeVos. To give teachers less students per classroom and assistants at lower grades to help identify students having issues that may begin at the home, like hunger, identifying kids who may show signs of ADHD and are having trouble tracking the fast paced work, students with dyslexia, etc. Specialists/Counselors available to identify issues and meet with parents. Having time to exercise bodies as well as minds. Giving public schools back the funds removed from them to fund charter schools, especially charter schools who cannot meet the same educational goals that public schools must meet. Professional days used to educate our educators on how to identify students with anger caused by problems beyond the student's control. And to support the ability to keep great teachers in the classroom by federal government encouraging a professional wage for teachers because they ARE professionals and need to be PAID as professionals. NO NON EDUCATOR IS CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF EDUCATION SUPPORT. It's like expecting a Wall Street. CEO to take over in an operating room. Ask any doctor if that's a good idea. Think that a teacher shouldn't be compared to a doctor? I dare any CEO or doctor to walk into a 5th grade class and teach for a week. Keep the peace. Make sure everyone has their lunch. Make sure the kids use the rules of kindness, respect, and responsibility. Make sure the kids make it to any special classes, assistance time, that disabled students are getting the help they need. Make sure they have food in case of no food in the home or money for lunch. Make sure they do not ingest food they can't have. Make it out to the bus on time if they ride, get to the rides if someone picks them up, or to other family members if they walk. This is less than 5% of the time a teacher work at the building. That doesn't count for time after school he or she works. So keep the federal government out of it. The only thing a teacher should be getting from you guys is support through more money in the budget, pushing for reasonable class sizes, assistance for school counseling staff, and paying professional teachers what they're worth.
