Special Councils aren’t appointed that often. However, when we do appoint them, we need to ensure that the process is as fair as humanly possible. I think some people will look at this issue as a partisan one simply because of the current special council, but we should be thinking long term here. The use and protection of special councils is more than the current Trump administration. Eventually, the shoes will probably be on the proverbial other political foot. As such, I think there needs to be a clear line of protection that takes a special council outside the purview of the Executive branch when that special council is investigating the Executive branch or members within the Executive branch. People who only look at this issue in light of our current political climate are just not forward thinking.
