Employees who currently earn the minimum wage provide services that are needed. I have heard it argued that they are not doctors or lawyers, etc., and therefore their services are less important and they should expect low wages. However, I believe anyone who gets up and works deserves a wage that affords them basic human needs like shelter and food. The current wage is not enough to match rising rent and food costs. Having to work 3 jobs to afford only the most basic needs is antithetical to one of our greatest American values: dignity for the working class.
