Many UAW members who work unionized factory jobs have great insurance. It's one of the top perks of working in these jobs. It not only provides low-cost preventive care, but also protects people when they are at their sickest and have complex chronic conditions. Instead of penalizing individuals who have great insurance or employers who provide it, we should incentivize plans to take a value based approach to health care and to prioritize outcome over choice. This could help keep costs and inflation down while also improving outcomes for patients--a win-win that doesn't penalize the folks who have fought hard over generations to get great benefits.
