This is one thing I feel very strongly about. In 1995 my oldest daughter was born. Within 24 hours of her birth, she was diagnosed with a severe congenital heart defect. I was lucky. My husband’s insurance did allow for pre-existing conditions. What if they hadn’t? How would I have paid for the 5 open hearts that she had in her 16 short years with us? My daughter did not ask for her condition, and all the issues that went hand in hand with it. It should, and needs to remain mandatory for any insurance company to unconditionally cover conditions that are pre-existing, without raising premiums.
