The cost of an abortion is vastly lower than the cost of supporting an unwanted child until it's 18th year of life. Poor women should not have to support a life they do not want to. Abstinence is a hope, not a reality. Low income women are usually victims of abortions performed outside of a medical setting. Providing safe, affordable access to abortion is vital to ensuring the mental health of our nation. We know that our foster care system is overloaded. We know being unwanted can burden a child's emotional development, and carry on into adulthood. We know that adoptive parents exist, but the number of children in need of adoption exceeds the number of prospective adoptive parents. Government agencies and services are supposed to be separated from moral opposition. Women should have healthcare no matter their financial status.
