The most prevalent population of predators on this planet are Humans. We prey on every creature on this planet, including ourselves. We consume everything and give back nothing. We call the Earth "our" planet. But we are merely tenants, not owners. Only the laws we create to stave off our own wanton destruction of everything we see stops us from causing wholesale obliteration. We cause massive damage to the environment in our effort to strip the planet of it's natural resources. We cut massive scars into the Earth to get to "precious" metals and stones to adorn ourselves with. Through all of this, WE decide what creatures live or die. Then, when we have exterminated them, we mourn their loss as if it were inevitable they should become extinct. The Human species believes itself "adaptable." Believes it can endure the constant destruction of it's own environment. Dreams of going to other planets and planting ourselves there. To what end? I often wonder. Should we finally cause our own demise and some beings from another planet find what remained of us here, in the distant future, what would they think of us.
