The first thing our immigration policy fails to recognize is we are all immigrants and the majority of the people our policy keeps out are actually native to continent. The next thing is when it comes to illegal immigration we fail to understand it is almost impossible for those to have legally come in due to cost and bureaucracy. So the the first step should be a background check to keep out terrorist and criminals. Next we need compassion and every case is unique and therefore should be looked at by a person and those denied should be refunded and case reviewed. We also need immigrants for a lot of the lower paying jobs like agriculture that depend on immigrant labor. The current status is the government turns a blind eye while big industry exploits illegal immigrants who have no rights or recourse as they fear deportation. Since the economy does depend on them give them a special work status only allowing stays during the the harvest and limit to that type work.
