There are a few areas where pedestrian right of ways would be useful. Congested city areas where there are lots of office buildings could be set aside for foot traffic only. Scenic parkways in national or city parks for foot traffic. Traffic can be rerouted around these areas to allow roads to utilized for foot traffic and still allow autos on the periphery. We need more exercise and walking is a alternative. With the right setting it could be pleasant. I go to Greenville, S.C. regularly, although there are still automobiles allowed walking downtown is always pleasant. It would even be better with fewer cars and due to the layout of the roads it would be possible to dedicate some parts of downtown to auto free zones.
