Do not raise payroll taxes. The majority of citizens who have taxes deducted from their payroll are already struggling to pay bills, much less save for the future. Rather than tax those who can least afford to give up more income, raise the cap so that those who earn more are still contributing proportionally. My concern about connecting benefits to CPI is that if CPI goes down that benefits will also. And future legislation could freeze benefits at a lower point if CPI has gone down. I'm supportive of changes to social security, including raising the retirement age for those currently under 40. Or for restoring all funds ever pulled from the social security trust fund. But working Americans are already struggling to bring home enough money to support their family. Please do not ask them to pay more.
