How do you maintain a consistent knowledge base for students across the country if each state decides what it wants to teach? How does a student who moves from one state to the other (maybe bc of a parent's new job) know she is learning the same fundamentals in the new state? There must be a core curriculum. Also, consistent record keeping is essential, especially in this era of using test scores as accountability measures. Uniform record keeping is the way to allow parents the information to make good choices for their children.
