While I see President Trumps end goal of returning industry to America, and evening the international trade playing field, there has to be steps in this process for it to work. We cannot just walk in a and “change the rules” and expect other nations to follow. With these tariffs we are potentially opening the door to cost increase in other sectors either directly or indirectly related to steel. Not to mention other world market retaliation which can increase the cost of imported goods to the US and lessen the amount of US exports. For now Congress needs to halt any such legislation until deals can be revisited and long-term affects understood.
