Having personally heard and seen very bad employers mismanage employee scheduling to cover essential needs, especially in any job connected with human services ( i.e. hospitals; any job in direct care work; mega department stores). All of these examples universally count in the generous giving nature of their employees or the desperation of living pay check to pay check and still falling behind due to earning minimum wage or lower. I've seen first hand how hospitals due to deliberate understaffing force nurses already having worked a 12 hour shift into overtime hours at regular pay, this is when critical medication errors happen and patient care directly suffers as a result. These employers 'take, take, take' mentality needs to change and the best way to send a message to these type of employee abuse is to organize or join a union.
