I am not pro or anti pot. That said, I think the federal law needs to reflect the current climate in the states which is legalizing pot is a trend. It’s also clear that incarceration of people for petty drug charges hurts our workforce and creates higher incarceration rates for their future. Research also seems to indicate that the best way to truly fight drugs would be with evidence based rehabilitation. California found for every $1 they spent on rehabilitation, it saved $7 in incarceration. Want to “win the war on drugs?” Focus on drug rehabilitation and make it free through a tax on drugs and alcohol which are legal. More people have died from their addiction to prescription opiates than we lost in Vietnam. This problem has a solution and it’s called rehabilitation.
