Many people who are opposed to this bill fail to understand that this bill addresses waste disposal from coal generation. This bill does nothing to increase pollution from the original burning of coal, but it does take steps to remove the byproducts from the environment. Short of moving completely away from goal generation -- which is happening due to the shale gas boom and the rapid growth in renewable energy production -- we need to dispose of this waste. Are their better ways? Sure -- quit burning coal. But until we get away from coal generation we need a way to deal with the waste, and this Bill will help do that.
