Deport the racists, not the dreamers. My dear friend was brought here from Mexico when she was 14. Her parents worked insanely hard to build a life for her family here. She has lived in the US for most of her life. Her family and friends live here. She works hard and pays taxes. You tell me where her home is. It's difficult for others to imagine the stress and insecurity that being an undocumented immigrant entails. DACA allowed her to work using a government issued social security number and to drive with a valid drivers license. These may seem like small things but they have allowed her to feel relatively safe. The repeal of DACA has been tremendously difficult. Feeling unwanted in the country you call home feels pretty terrible. We need to pass the Dream Act for people like my friend. And we shouldn't do it just because it's the right thing to do. We should also do it because it benefits our country. After educating the dreamers, it makes financial sense to keep them in the country once they are able to start contributing to society. So, for whatever reason you pass it, just pass the Dream Act.
