When this sort of action is proposed, those in favor always expect it to apply to only Christianity. As all the other religions step up to take their place, everyone realizes they don't want it. We don't have to dig deeply to realize that the most bitter, long-standing wars are based on religion. And amazingly those wars are usually fought for religions that are, in many respects, nearly identical. One of our servicewomen serving in Iraq, told me that to her the difference between Sunni and Shite was comparable to Baptists killing each other because some of them believed in full immersion baptisms and some did not. These are precisely the sort of actions that caused our Founding Fathers to enshrine their view in the very first Amendment to our Constitution. They deliberately stepped away from the idea of individual states establishing 'state religions'. There is never a satisfactory decision about which religious concepts will rule. The founders rightly chose the rule of law as our political structure.
