The effects of NCLB, standardized testing, reducing funding based on test scores from children without considering the uncontrollable variables that could cause these low test scores (with minimal reasoning being the way the teacher taught the material), the teaching-to-the-test method that I personally encountered in my classrooms all throughout my public education since 2001, etc. etc. these are problematic and have been known to be. The classroom is more than a machine to spew out numbers. Public schools are and should be a sanctuary. They should allow children to flourish in what individually suits them. We already know you can't fit every single child into the same box. Why are we trying? Why aren't we accommodating for individual differences in children and embracing them? STEM funding is important, but music, theatre and the arts are JUST AS valuable to be funded and supported. Our educational system is a tough one to tackle, but needs to be reformed nonetheless.
