I notice in many comments the familiar thread of not allowing mentally unstable or ill people access to firearms. Common sense, but fraught with definitional issues. First, who defines someone as mentally ill? Second, just because someone sees a mental health professional doesn't make them mentally ill. Third, many mentally ill people are not diagnosed and receive no services and would therefore be able to purchase a firearm. And no, I am certainly not advocating for people with mental illness to have firearms, I'm just pointing out some areas to review and think about to make a better discussion and law.
