I think we need to look farther down the road than we do whenever we develop and introduce products that are expected to benefit the human race. We seem to forget that life and objects on Earth are all part of a dynamic, interconnected system with interaction effects that also contribute to that system. Eliminating, changing, or introducing elements affects that system in ways that may not immediately be seen or felt and ultimately - for good or ill - affect the human race. Plastics looked good. Now, we know they’re a problem and we at least need to reduce their use and change disposal methods. Sunscreen is good in the near term, and may contain chemicals that adversely affect a part if the damaged system that in turn affects climate in complex ways. Certainly, we should look at that in the different environments that are different bodies of water because no single body of water in a single region is necessarily representative of them all.
