My objection to passage of this bill is simple: we need an educated population who understands some basic things to be able to make good decisions and be productive members of society. And these basic things should be nation wide, and should include basic math and science, history of the rest of the world and our own country, critical thinking skills, reading and writing cogently, and the literature and music. "Common core" got a bad rap because it was implemented badly, with too much emphasis on testing. But the basic idea that there is a minimum level of education is a good one: If there is no common standard for what people need to know, some will have much better & broader education than others, and the ones who get the less adequate education will be disadvantaged from the start. If we want our country to continue to lead the world, we must educate our people well !!!
