"Criminals will still be criminals and get the guns" is not a fair enough defense of allowing assault weapons to be sold. It admits that they're being bought modernly by criminals. If we ban the legal sale of assault weapons then it makes it HARDER for criminals to purchase these weapons meant solely for the taking of human life. And also naysayers seem to be under the false impression that their guns will be taken when that's not the case. Assault weapons already on the market will still be available, and if you already own a gun it will not be taken from you. This is solely to make it harder for mass killings like the one in Charleston to happen again.
