This joint resolution would amend the Constitution keeping members of Congress from serving more than six terms in the \nHouse, and/or more than two terms in the Senate.

This means that no lawmaker could serve in Congress longer than 12 years as a Representative or Senator. \nWhile lawmakers could serve an additional consecutive term in either the\n House or Senate to fill a vacated seat, it would count as a full-term \nagainst their limit if they serve more than one year of a House term or \nthree years of a Senate term.

Currently, members of Congress do not have term limits. As long as they are re-elected to their positions — every two years in the House and every six years in the Senate — they can stay in Congress as long as they are re-elected.

Because this is a joint resolution to amend the Constitution, it would not require approval from the President. And, since states can't impose Congressional term limits on their officials, only changes to the Constitution can ensure term \nlimits.
