For those of you that voted Nay, have a read through the finer points of the bill because the Summary is a tad misleading. As a small business owner, I was slightly inclined to vote Nay because of the government involvement and vague nature of the initial bill overview. But! This is bill's aim is to add a safeguard for people in, primarily, service professions - those that do not have a union or collective contractual agreement that provides work schedule protections. I think what the bill hopes to accomplish is a step in the right direction, as far as adding a level of protection for workers that do not have the benefits that government and private sector employees do. It should be the right of every employee to present their employer with a written request to amend their work schedule (for valid reasons), and have their employer formally respond in a timely manner.
