Here’s how I feel- EITHER we make college more affordable for students in general OR we provide access for more of these types of programs. It is unreasonable to put young people in crippling debt just to try to advance their education and achieve advanced jobs. The old “when I went to school I worked and blah blah” adage is crap. Interest rates on loans were a fourth to a fifth of what they are now and tuition is 4-10 times the cost depending on in-state or out of state and any possible scholarships. For many older Americans it was possible to work and go to college and leave without much debt- it is nearly impossible today. So- we either need to make college more affordable across the board OR we need to prove access to these types of programs. (I’d rather college was more affordable).
