Yes. We need to look at the whole vehicle and highway tax code to see how to appropriately assess tax on electric vehicles and petrol vehicles. Obviously, the heavier a vehicle is, the more wear it puts on our highways. The most effective way, may be to require every vehicle to have a gps locator connected to the vin number. The gps would identify the amount of miles driven on a specific highway and vin number would identify the vehicle class and weight to assess the appropriate tax and to where the tax will be spent. The gas tax could then be lowered to only cover the cost of the sales, and environmental damage it causes.
