Many communities have been blackmailed into building new stadiums by team owners. Communities have been threatened with loss of teams if they don't build a new facility. A case in point is the Minnesota Vikings. The voting public several times rejected paying for a new stadium for the Vikings. The State Legislature finally did an end-run around the voters and approved funding for a new stadium AND THEN when the public saw the architectural plans STRONGLY objected to plans to not use a special glass that would have kept birds from flying into it - all to save in construction costs. KEEP IN MIND that Minneapolis is squarely in the middle of the MISSISSIPPI FLYWAY, which is the eons old route that hundred of varieties of birds use to move seasonally from as far north as the Arctic to as far south as South America! We, The People of Minnesota, were pissed as hell about this! TEAMS OWNERS HAVE ENOUGH WEALTH GENERATED BY THEIR TEAMS TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN DAMN INFRA-STRUCTURE!
