This amendment is addressing a problem that does not exist. Every parent in the USA has a choice in how to raise their children. It is not my problem if they choose not to exercise this choice. This bill does nothing, but serves to undermine public goods, specifically public education, and use tax money to finance private education which does not have to conform to the same standards, access, and public accountability. This is ethically, morally, and legally wrong. This amendment is not about protecting paternal rights, it is about forcing the State to provide special treatment to those who act or wish to act outside of the established public systems by choice. At the same time it would undermine the rights of the majority who rely on, and will continue to rely on, these public systems.
