Being put in a database when you get a drivers license does not prevent you from owning a car, and being put in a database is not the same as being treated like a criminal.
These databases are not an infringement of people’s second amendment rights. I kind of wish they were a way to restrict gun ownership, because there are way too many gun owners in this country.
Frankly, I’ve come to the belief that the NRA leadership and their political puppets are in favor of mass shootings. They like it when school kids and church goers are shot dead. I mean, why else would they oppose any and every reasonable gun control law?
Nobody believes thoughts and prayers will stop bullets, and no amount of good guys with guns have ever stopped bad guys with guns from shooting people.
We don’t need assault rifles for hunting, and we could just restrict them to gun ranges for sport purposes, like we do for full machine guns. Untrained individuals don’t need the power to mow down crowds of people.
Even if you are pro-gun, I’m sure you can think of or even know at least one person you wouldn’t trust with a peashooter, never mind a firearm. What’s wrong with making sure that such people are kept away from weapons?
Why does your right to be able to kill me outweigh my right to keep on living without fear of you killing me?
If we were to interpret the 2nd amendment in its historical context, it would support the notion that states have the right to assemble and train militias with nuclear armaments, because that would be the only way to give them parity with the federal military in order to fight tyranny. Nobody argues this, so why the heck do we interpret it as granting an unlimited individual license to bear arms? In our modern world, the second amendment is nonsensical.
However, let’s suppose there was some valid reason for everyone to have an individual right to own a gun. That still doesn’t mean that people who don’t know how to handle a gun safely should be allowed to have a gun, or that people who have shown that they have self control issues should be allowed access to a gun. Owning a gun is a responsibility, and gun owners should at least have to go through a few simple challenges to prove that they are responsible people before they are allowed to have a gun.
Being put in a database is a trivial challenge for gun owners to put up with in order to own a gun.
