Even having graduated as of relative late (2009), it was sad to have a high school experience where several of my teachers tried to persuade me not to take STEM classes and ultimately pursue a stem career. I also volunteer with Girl Scouts and to my dismay, hear the same stories from current middle and high school girls. In the 80's, there was a huge federally funded push to increase women in STEM and as a result, saw a measured rise in women in STEM. After the funding stopped, there was a steep decline in this number. For these reasons, this bill needs to pass.
