As many citizens have pointed out, hunters and fishermen tend to be the biggest supporters of conservation, period. Because they know the laws, they not only abide by them but are the first to turn in those who do not. Offenders tend to be few and far between because hunters know that State wildlife officers have the power to a) suspend your license forever and b) take you vehicle, firearms and anything else you might be carrying with no obligation to give any of it back, ever. Hunters are not scraggly toothed neanderthal, Gun toting idiots. They typically are more well versed in law than their neighbors. Many often buy licenses as a way to contribute to conservation each year without any intention of actually hunting. In the same vein, fishermen tend to follow catch and release; that's how strongly they feel about angling and hunting. The data supports this opinion. Please do your research people. Btw, I, too, happen to be an animal lover. I purchase a hunting and fishing license every year. Number of animals harmed? Zero. I just like the view. Thanks to my dollars and the dollars of a likeminded community, our state has managed to preserve wetlands and state wildlife preserves for generations to come. No one is twiddling their mustaches like the evil Snidely Whiplash to kill a (woo hoo) polar bear. Really? Geez, get your facts straight paranoid people.
