I’m beginning to think some formula is needed. I’m concerned that minimum wage purchasing power continues to decline. My tax dollars are increasingly used to to make up for low wages and, as a result, I am unwittingly subsidizing business enterprises that won’t pay a decent wage. No one over the age of twenty should work full time and earn below the poverty line. Historical data shows the economy is more vibrant with higher wages and such a measure as this one would mitigate a growing income disparity. I fear that, left unchecked, this otherwise widening gap in earnings will turn us into to a nation of the poor led by an oligarchy bent on its own capital preservation rather than concerning itself with our county’s economic growth. I would respectfully urge you to consider a measure like this one that would lead to a higher quality of life for all Americans.
