This administration is taking an anti-regulation posture as if all regulation is bad. There have been many toxic wastes sites in America for which the EPA was charged with overseeing clean up for. Those toxic wastes dumps were the direct result of corporations not giving a hoot for the environment or the health of the people. They dumped chemicals into the ground indiscriminately for decades at great cost to the taxpayer while they maximized their profits. Regulation is often born of necessity for the public good. The President's arbitrary rule that for every new regulation, two regulations must be eliminated is born from this anti-regulation attitude. I am not against review of regulations for the purposes of efficiency and removing redundancy, but I do oppose the arbitrariness of this rule and the insistence of this Congress that they review every regulation. They lack the will to do so and the expertise to do so in an efficient manner. I see this bill as another effort to thwart regulations that corporations don't like. This administration is moving us backwards to the 1950's and 1960's level of regulation, which is not good for the health of Americans or the environment. They exhibit a total lack of social responsibility for these decisions that will impact yet another generation. Deregulation has consequences, which we saw all too clearly with the economy relative to banking deregulation. Apparently there is no learning from the past and therefore we are destined to repeat it. The American people need to become more discerning and stop getting conned by politicians like Paul Ryan, Mike Pence and Donald Trump. These men do more damage than good to our Republic and they speak through both sides of their mouths. Americans elect the President that reflects their hopes and fears, conscious and unconscious. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected by a population that was afraid and paralyzed by the Great Depression. This was reflected in President Roosevelt's own paralysis from polio. However, he also had great hope and determination despite his affliction and was able to act in the public good. This current President reflects the bullying aspect of America born of fear. The lie of the ego is that self defense makes one safer. But in reality, joining with others, building community and strengthening common bonds while respecting diversity is what truly makes us safe. The world has become a very small place because of global information systems. Isolation and bullying are old tactics that fail again and again. The bully and the deregulator will create more fear and suffering in our country and will fail to make us feel safe as our water and air will surely be polluted as a result. That's just the tip of the iceberg. This is an irresponsible administration.
