Being a former employer of the Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management, working under an Interagency (a co-op of BLM and Forest Service) and maintaining a relationship with current employees, I know the over spending, and useless, unworked hours being paid by tax payers, with tax dollars. As an 18 yr old, getting hired as a GS-3, making $13.00 hr base pay (40hrs a week) and time and a half for over time ($19.50/ hrs) with mandatory 10-12 hour days, sometimes 6 days a week, but mostly 14 days on, 2 days off. Repeat throughout fire season. If these employees ACTUALLY, fought fire or preserved our land, then maybe, but we were paid to watch tv, play video games, garden, cook, be away from our homes and fill out time sheets. This last year, our local BLM fire station spent maybe 4% of their payed time on fires... Maybe. These are my experiences. This is what I DO KNOW about the DOI BLM FS. It's not too far of a stretch to wonder if other InterAgencies behave similarly, since their order of operations, education, and money come from the same source...This wasted money and effort (or lack of) could have been used for millions of things to benefit humanity. Instead, the taxes you paid out of the money you worked for, with your precious time, went to GOVT SLUGS... Just sayin.
