Credit reporting agencies have themselves stated that a medical collection is not indicative of a consumers credit worthiness so why then should a paid medical collection haunt someone for seven years. You don’t expect to get sick or your child to get sick but it happens. Even with medical insurance a small visit to an orthropedic surgeon for a child’s fractured arm cost me over $800 out of pocket. Minor surgery cost me over $1k out of pocket. Most people don’t have this kind of money lying around and by the time insurance companies repond the damage is done. Reponsible people that finally pay their medical bills should not be penalized for years to come. For some people that I know the collections are less than $200 and those have been paid in full. Big price to pay for being denied loans or having to pay high interest on loans!
