Current punishments do not fit the crime. In some cases, such as those involving marijuana, most of society thinks it should be legalized and in some states it is. It's unfair for a person in a legal state to be able to grow or sell marijuana and then go 1 mile across a neighboring state line and get 5 or 10 years for doing the same thing. I understand each states right to make laws as they deem necessary but just the aspect of one state believing it's safe enough to be legal and another state wanting to take 10 years of someone's life for the same thing should say to any person with common sense that penalties are way off balance. By present standards, major drug company CEOs should be in jail serving 20+ years and life sentences. Some of the drugs they are pushing are doing more harm to society than most street drug dealers.
