Better and more precisely put, the question is whether or not we should treat detainees like people. I don’t care what a person has done, they should still be treated like a person. I think that even a racist mass murderer ought to be appropriately housed, fed, clothed, given healthcare, given access to a library and other educational resources, and so on. I am not suggesting that truly dangerous people be put in minimum security facilities, but I do think that, we can manage to treat people like people. In this case, CBP has been doing a piss-poor job of treating people like people, even the ones who aren’t violent offenders.
