Here's the thing: We, like much of the rest if the developed world, need to shift ever more urgently to renewables and particularly non-polluting renewables. It's in our own self interest. Is ethanol the solution? No, of course not. The subsidized corn industry is something of a disaster at home and abroad and adds little to nothing to efficiency, clean air or much of anything else, except propping up a powerful lobbying industry. Meanwhile, its devastating land across Africa, South America and at home and/or taking up productive land that could be used for more vital purposes, such as food production for things we actually should be eating, livestock grazing, reforestation, biodiversity and more. So, yes to renewables and clean standards, but let's get over the corn.
