Years ago I would not have felt this way, because I naively believed that members of Congress really chose service to their country. There might still be a few who do that....go into government to improve the lives of ordinary Americans. Sadly, the evidence is clear that for most of them - especially the ones such as the Koch Cartel supports - they're in it for the money and the power and their own self-interest. What is good for ordinary Americans is the furthest thing from their minds. Republicans in particular salivate at cutting CBDGs; tossing people off of disability; slashing any and all rental assistance programs; removing consumer protections placed on the financial industry and Wall Street who have shown over and over they cannot and WILL NOT regulate themselves; refusing to ensure all Americans have health care; talking endlessly about privatizing Social Security; cutting Medicaid and questioning Medicare....how long a list do you want me to make? But we the taxpayers should give them pensions? NO! Every single benefit they get should be exactly what is deemed "enough" for their constituents, every benefit as precarious and subject to revocation as the ones we have. Oh. And their children have to start going to public school, period. Maybe Congress would start caring about what Mrs. Devos is shredding over there at the Dept. of Ed. I'm so over the disgusting attitudes of most of the people "representing" Americans.
