I understand the desire to appear interested in keeping our schools safe especially in light of the strong student movement started after Parkland. Making our children attend schools locked down like prisons is not a answer. How many of you attended a PUBLIC school (elementary, secondary, university) with armed guards (or worse, teachers), metal detectors, locked doors (which I believe are probably against every fire code in the country) and 'active shooter' drills? Is that an environment you would have wanted? Is it one you would want for your children? Why is it you can't address the ROOT CAUSE of the school safety issue we have had in this country since the mid 1990s - LAX, INEFFECTIVE GUN LAWS? Treating symptoms does not cure the underlying illness. Would you take an aspirin for cancer? Do the right thing and give our kids the safety they deserve and fix our gun violence problem without treating our schools like prisons and our students like inmates.
