I do not support this Bill, and I would hope that our CODEL would recognize that national emergencies do require response flexibility for Executive Branch. Moreover, it doesn’t matter who holds the office.
I understand that some of our citizens prefer an open southern border without regards to the difference between legal immigration and what is clearly a chaotic situation wherein people move through the border without regards to our laws. Whatever the motivations of these citizens, be it cheap labor, human trafficking, the importation of illicit drugs or anarchy, the illegal immigration must be stopped. I think that national defense is one of the fundamental obligations of government, and accordingly stopping this illegal immigration is the responsibility of both the Executive and Legislative Branches.
