The presidential elections of 1876, 1888, 2000, and 2016 produced an Electoral College winner who did not receive the most votes in the general. Those who argue for the electoral vote ask why should two states (California and New York) primarily determine the outcome of an election? I say because that’s where a lot of people live. I ask why should underpopulated rural areas determine the outcome? As Burrkitty so eloquently said, “make the voters matter again.”
